Lifting Education and Advancement for Rising Nurses (LEARN) Scholar Program

Scholarship | $29,600 | Quinnipiac University

LEARN supports second-degree students from disadvantaged backgrounds to earn their BSN while focusing their clinical education on primary and community-based care, rural and tribal healthcare and other medically underserved populations.

About the Scholarship

This program, supported by the Health Recourses and Services Administration (HRSA), provides significant funding, dedicated mentoring and career support to eligible students enrolled in Quinnipiac University’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program.

Recipients will receive:

  • A $29,600 scholarship to support their ABSN studies ($7,400 per semester) 
  • Participation in a specialized success program 
  • Dedicated mentorship and career development 
  • Unique clinical placements in rural, primary care, tribal, and/or medically underserved settings

Who Is Eligible?

To be considered for the HRSA LEARN Scholarship, students must be enrolled in Quinnipiac University's ABSN program and meet at least one of the following criteria:

Economically Disadvantaged
  • The student's family income, as determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), is at or below 200% of the Health and Human Services Poverty Guidelines.
Educationally Disadvantaged
The student:
  • Identifies as a first-generation college student, as determined through the FAFSA; or
  • Attended an under-performing high school, as identified through the admissions application.

How to Apply

Students must complete the FAFSA as part of the application process. The federal school code for Quinnipiac University is 001402.

As part of the scholarship application, students will be asked to provide basic contact and student information and submit a 500–750-word essay addressing:

  1. How their background has influenced their understanding of healthcare access, health disparities, or challenges faced by underserved populations.
  2. Their interest in primary care, community-based care, rural health, tribal health, or other medically underserved settings.
  3. How participation in the LEARN Program would support their academic, professional, and career goals.

Clinical Travel Requirement

ABSN students selected as HRSA LEARN Scholars must be willing and able to travel longer distances for designated clinical rotations.

Students should consider transportation and travel requirements when applying for the program.

The deadline to apply for the Spring 2027 cohort is October 15, 2027.

Our Accelerated BS in Nursing enables students with a bachelor’s degree in another discipline to transition toward a fulfilling career in nursing. Students can choose to start the program in either January or August and will earn their degree in just fifteen months.

Our program concentrates entirely on nursing coursework and practice. The curriculum blends classroom learning on our North Haven Campus with clinical experiences in a variety of settings throughout the state.

All students in the ABSN program receive personalized support from the School of Nursing faculty and staff. These experienced practitioners are dedicated to healthcare excellence and equity and give you the tools to become an integral member of a healthcare team and a transformational leader in the field.
