The BA in Hispanic and Latin American Studies appeals to students with a passion for the Spanish language as well as students with a vested interest in the culture, literature, art and history of Hispanic and Latin American nations. Designed for students at every level of proficiency in Spanish, students enjoy the freedom and flexibility they need to embark on a journey of cultural discovery as they complete course requirements in both English and Spanish.
As an interdisciplinary program, the BA in Hispanic and Latin American Studies is one of the most flexible and versatile at the university. Students are encouraged to consider this program as a double major, with clear connections to adjacent degrees in English, history, political science, environmental sustainability, the health sciences and other majors across the university. By developing an appreciation for cultural differences and gaining an advanced command of the Spanish language, graduates will be uniquely positioned to excel in diverse fields from international business to healthcare, law, education, journalism and more.
Students who complete excellent work in their Spanish courses can earn membership into Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica).
