Designed for students at every level of proficiency in Spanish, our Minor in Hispanic and Latin American Studies welcomes students to explore the rich history and literature of Spanish-speaking cultures.
The Minor in Hispanic and Latin American Studies is designed for students with a vested interest in the rich tapestry of culture, literature, art and history prevalent in Hispanic and Latin American nations. Through this program, students gain a nuanced understanding of the rich heritage and contemporary dynamics of Hispanic and Latin American societies, preparing them to excel in various fields in an interconnected global landscape.
This interdisciplinary program caters to students at varying levels of proficiency in Spanish, providing them with the freedom and flexibility needed to immerse themselves in a captivating journey of cultural exploration while still taking courses in English. Students interested in a concentration in Spanish language competency should explore the Minor in Spanish.
To complete the minor, students must take 18 credits of coursework. The three required courses (HSP 210, HSP 210 and HSP 374) are taught in English. Students then select three electives (9 credits) to complete the minor and may suggest other electives beyond those listed in the curriculum section after consulting with their minor advisor.
Electives may include culture and literature courses as well as internships and study abroad. Students can choose to complete the minor entirely in English or incorporate Spanish language courses. At least 9 credits must be taken on campus.
