BS in Data Science Curriculum

Our curriculum builds industry-specific knowledge and skills while giving you the flexibility to customize your schedule based on your needs. Below are the course requirements for the Data Science program, and an example of what your academic experience might look like.

Data Science Program of Study

The curriculum takes students through three stages.

1)     Students begin with foundational coursework in calculus and linear algebra, statistics, programming, and an introduction to data science that includes algorithmic thinking, computational thinking, and ethical considerations of data.  DS110, DS201, CSC110/L, MA151, MA229, MA285, EC365

2)     Students then deepen their knowledge with coursework in algorithms, data mining, and machine learning.  They select data science electives based on their interest.  Students also complement their data science coursework with domain knowledge by selecting and completing a minor.  DS210, DS380, DS385, minor or second major

3)      In their final semester, students complete a capstone course where they apply their data science skills, knowledge, and competencies to a problem in a discipline of their choice (their minor or second major).  DS480
